Welcome to the September edition of The AI Visibility Brief from Frontier15.

The out-of-office replies are a thing of the past, the school shoes are scuffed already, and we’ve all reset our forgotten passwords. So, for this month’s briefing, we’re going back to school too, with content at the top of the timetable.

AI has made it possible to create more content, more quickly and at lower cost than ever before. That’s useful, but it has also filled the internet with a load of competent material that adds very little to what is already known.

The emerging lesson for AI visibility is that volume still has a place, especially when brands need to build depth around the subjects they genuinely understand. But volume without knowledge, judgement or originality is a much less impressive proposition.

This month, we look at what happened when OtterlyAI published 2,000 unedited AI blogs, what Reddit’s sudden fall in ChatGPT citations tells us about relying too heavily on any single platform, and why professional writers can learn to love AI without losing touch with the human side of writing.

I’ll be speaking about that last subject at Passion Digital’s next Future of Search briefing on 14th October, exploring the human advantage in AI visibility and why original, engaging and unmistakably human content matters more than ever when brands are competing to be found.

1: AI can write 2,000 blogs. Should it?

OtterlyAI created two new websites and filled each with around 1,000 fully AI-generated articles in less than a day. Both initially gained visibility in Google, then disappeared. ChatGPT crawled them thousands of times but cited them precisely zero times, while Bing and Copilot responded very differently. The experiment is a useful warning against treating scaled, unedited AI content as a shortcut to authority.

2: Dr Writeswell learns to love AI

Professional writer and Frontier15 founder Jo Robb was an early adopter of AI, using it for research, organisation and the heavy lifting that can otherwise swallow a content project. Her experience has also made the human contribution clearer: judgement, curiosity, character and the unexpected turn of phrase that makes content feel like a conversation. AI can support all of that, sure, but it can’t deliver the lived experience that makes a brand worth citing.

3: Reddit has moved seats again

Reddit’s share of citations in ChatGPT Search reportedly fell by more than 86% in a matter of days during August. The reason is not yet clear and the movement may not be permanent, but the lesson is already useful. Citation behaviour changes quickly and each AI platform has its own preferences. Sustainable GEO comes from building clear, credible authority across your website, expert voices, media, communities and the wider web.

4: Join us at Future of Search

What will it take for brands to be found in 2027? I’ll be joining Passion Digital’s Future of Search breakfast briefing in Central London on 14th October to talk about the human advantage in AI search. The morning will also cover the changing search landscape, organic visibility, and the future of paid search.
